Y’know, gay (and other glbtq) men are sometimes mentioned in bd circles (amidst discussions about male dancers). But I don’t think I’ve ever heard (or seen) any discussions about gay (or otherwise glbtq) women- in reference to bellydance. Hmmm… What are your thoughts..? Care to discuss..?

Carolena N. Creatrix of FCBD is a lesbian, been with her partner for YEARS. Olivia Kissel, Amy Sigil, Jill parker….. I can keep naming… they are out and outspoken. I think In tribal it’s kind of a given that we embrace all kinds of people, LGBTQ, male, female, genderfluid etc, where as i have found in the more “traditional” “mainstream” belly dance, it’s still about the male gaze and the “traditional” feminine” in the hetero normative sense.
I could keep going but I have a 5 page paper due in 2 hours.
Jihal Jamal Rocks my World. I love her! She is such a wonderful teacher and I’m so happy to count her among the teachers I’ve taken classes and workshops with.
